Agartala, Tripura, 27th of October, 2025 : The Fisheries PIU under TRESP, in collaboration with the North Tripura District Project Management Unit (DPMU), has successfully completed a series of three-day capacity-building programmes for 21 Fishery Producer Groups (PGs) across Dasda, Laljhuri, and Pechartal blocks.

The training initiative aimed to enhance scientific aquaculture practices and strengthen fisheries-based livelihood opportunities in rural communities. The sessions were led by Ms. Songhita Paul, District Manager (Fishery) for North & Unakuti, and Mr. Bidesh Naskar, TSA Project Executive, with active support from Master Trainers and Matsya Sakhis. During the training, participants gained hands-on knowledge in nursery pond management, water quality assessment, plankton development, seed rearing, polyculture techniques, high-value fish farming, and market linkage development. Practical demonstrations on feed preparation and aquaculture equipment usage made the learning process more interactive and effective.

With around 340 fish farmers trained across the region, the programme has significantly boosted the technical skills and confidence of PG members in adopting sustainable fish farming practices. As a continuation of capacity strengthening, a 5-day Master Trainer and Matsya Sakhi training is scheduled to begin, ensuring sustained field-level guidance and long-term livelihood growth under TRESP.
