Glendale Academy Successfully Hosts Its Flagship Community Event, Glen Run 2025, Under The Theme “Save The Sparrow”.

Hyderabad, Telangana, 23rd of September 2025 : Glendale Academy successfully hosted its flagship community event, Glen Run 2025, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students, parents, and citizens. The annual marathon, held under the theme “Save the Sparrow”, served as a powerful platform to raise awareness on sparrow conservation and broader biodiversity protection. Aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land, the event combined fitness with social responsibility, fostering community spirit while spreading an urgent message on environmental preservation.

This year’s Glen Run route began at Glendale Academy, Bandlaguda, stretched up to Army Public School, and returned to Glendale. The event featured a variety of activities such as a 3K run, skating, cycling, poster and photography contests, slogan writing, and a nest-making workshop—all aimed at involving participants of all ages in contributing towards conservation. The DIY nests highlighted how simple actions can help create safe spaces for sparrows. During the Term 1 vacation, from September 21 to October 5, the students will also conduct a survey to record sparrow sightings and later present their findings along with a Plan of Action to the Cabinet Minister of Forest and Environment, Smt Konda Surekha, supporting ongoing conservation efforts.

Applauding Glendale’s initiative, Mr G. Vivek Venkatswamy, State Minister for Labour, Employment, Training and Factories, Mines and Geology and Shri Mohammad Azharuddin, Indian politician and former cricket captain, who graced the event as Chief Guests, lauded the school for instilling environmental stewardship in young learners. They emphasised that such grassroots initiatives play a pivotal role in shaping a more aware and responsible society.

What began as a school initiative has grown into a city-wide movement, one that blends fitness, creativity, and conservation to nurture responsible global citizens. The overwhelming turnout, with enthusiastic participation from Glendale families as well as parents from outside the school community, reinforced Glen Run’s reputation as one of Hyderabad’s most anticipated and meaningful events.

Sharing a parent’s perspective, Mr. N.V. Sunny, father of a Grade 3 student, said, “As a parent, it was heartening to see how Glen Run turned fitness and fun into a meaningful lesson on conservation. My child came home not just excited about the race but also eager to build a nest and spot sparrows around our neighbourhood. That kind of learning, where children feel empowered to act, is priceless.”
