Health Department’s Top Officials Holds Meeting On Construction Of District Hospital At Khowai.

Khowai, 29th of December 2023 : In January 2012, without any infrastructure, the previous government announced the conversion of the Khowai Subdivisional hospital into a District hospital. Since then, 11 years have passed to transform Khowai District Hospital into a District hospital, but even today the actual infrastructure of the hospital has not been developed. After many meetings with local public representatives, district administration, senior officials of health department, the meeting was held with the aim of building a new district hospital. But the main problem was the location of the new district hospital.

The existing Khowai District Hospital does not have the required space to construction a District Hospital. And that’s when the search for an alternative place. Joydeb Debbarma Sabhadhipati, Khowai Zilla Parisad, District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate and local Tahsildar, a site was identified in the Dhalabil tea garden area. Although the placement is fairly well done, the local ruling party is divided over the placement. A part, the new district hospital building is wanted in the existing district hospital. Others wanted a district hospital to be completely rebuilt in Dhalabil. In such a situation, the beginning of determining the location of the district hospital has been hanging for the last three years.

To resolve the issue, the director of the health department held a meeting with the designers, construction workers and senior officials of health department at medical superintendent office of Khowai Hospital. After discussion in the meeting, it was found that 15 to 20 acres of land is required to build a district hospital with 150 beds. That place is not in the district hospital premises. It was decided to move to another place as an alternative. Interacted with media the director of the health department said that the health department of the state, wants to start work in Khowai district to improve health and medical services in the state. The construction of the new district hospital will start after the location is determined. Director inspected various units of the hospital and interacted with Doctors and officials working there.

Directorate of Health Services Dr. Supriya Mallik, Design Engineer Subir Chowdhury, Architect Sanjiban Datta, Medical Superintendent Mridul Das, District Chief Health Officer Dr. Nirmal Sarkar, Sub-Divisional Administration, and senior officials of health department were present at the meeting.
