Agartala, Tripura, 18th of June 2026 : The Faculty of Law, ICFAI University Tripura, is all set to organize the 4th NJY National Moot Court Competition–2026 from 17th to 19th June 2026 at the University campus. The competition is one of the flagship academic events of the Faculty of Law and aims to provide aspiring law students with a platform to develop their advocacy, legal research, drafting, and courtroom skills.

A total of 23 teams representing 21 reputed law institutions from 11 states across India total 68 students are participating in this prestigious national-level competition. Some of the prominent participating institutions include NEF Law College, Assam; Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi; ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad; Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Bharati Vidyapeeth and Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Adamas University, Kolkata; O.P. Jindal Global University, Haryana; Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar and Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam, among others.
The inaugural ceremony on 17th June 2026 was graced by Hon’ble Justice Subhasis Talapatra, Retired Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court, as the Chief Guest. The University dignitaries present on the dais included Prof. (Dr.) Biplab Halder, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor; Dr. A. Ranganath, Registrar and Dr. Nabarun Bhattacharjee, Principal, Faculty of Law.
A galaxy of eminent judges and legal experts also attended the event, including Mr. Rana Gopal Chakraborty, Secretary, Tripura High Court Bar Association; Dr. Souvik Roy, Adamas University; Prof. Priya Ranjan Kumar, Tripura University; Sri Subhas Sikdar, Retired District & Sessions Judge; Sri Nilotpal Deka, Senior Advocate, Gauhati High Court; Dr. Dristirupa Patgiri, Assam University; Dr. Arindam Saha & Dr. Nilanjan Chakraborty, Amity Law School; and several other distinguished academicians and legal professionals.
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) Biplab Halder highlighted the significance of organizing the National Moot Court Competition at ICFAI University Tripura in memory of the University’s beloved founder, Late N. J. Yasaswy. He emphasized that simulation is very important effective platform for bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and practical courtroom experience and moot court proceeding that conducted during the competition, providing participants with an opportunity to demonstrate their advocacy, legal research, drafting, and oral argumentation skills in a courtroom-like environment. The exercise enabled students to present arguments before a panel of judges, respond to judicial queries, and gain practical exposure to the dynamics of legal proceedings.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice Talapatra, highlighted the essential skills and qualities required for effective legal advocacy. Drawing from his own professional journey starting from practicing as an advocate to serving as a Judge of a State High Court, he shared valuable insights into the competencies, dedication, and ethical standards necessary for success in the legal profession. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, analytical thinking, effective communication, and professional integrity for aspiring advocates.
