Kolkata, West Bengal, 5th of July, 2026 : The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, came up with the Professor Saibal Kumar Ghosh Memorial Lecture Fund to honour the remarkable contributions of late Prof. Saibal Kumar Ghosh to engineering education and research in recent times.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Friday (July 3, 2026) between the Department of Civil Engineering, IIEST Shibpur, and Prof. Saptarshi Ghosh, Associate Professor at IIT Kharagpur and son of the late Prof. Ghosh.
The memorial lecture fund has been created through a generous endowment of Rs.5 lakh from the family of Prof. Ghosh. The fund will support an annual memorial lecture by distinguished experts from India and abroad. The lecture series aims to promote academic excellence, encourage research, and inspire students and young engineers.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Chaitali Ray, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, highlighted Prof. Ghosh’s outstanding academic achievements and his lasting contribution to the institution.
Prof. Saptarshi Ghosh recalled his father’s lifelong dedication to teaching and research. He expressed hope that the memorial lecture series would motivate future generations of engineers to pursue excellence with integrity and professionalism.
Prof. Anirban Gupta, Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, appreciated the family’s generous contribution. He said such initiatives strengthen the institute’s academic traditions and encourage greater alumni and family participation in institutional development.
This initiative is expected to strengthen the institute’s research ecosystem while preserving the legacy of one of its most respected teachers and institution-builders.
