Agartala, Tripura, 16th of November, 2024 : With the initiative of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) event organized in collaboration with the BEE and EESL at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala, Tripura on Saturday (16th November, 2024). In the presence of many dignitaries Hon’ble Power, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. A large-scale Distribution of 2,000 Induction Cooktops to Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) today through this programme.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), operating under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, is a leading Energy Service Company (ESCO). Their portfolio encompasses energy- efficient products like LED bulbs, tube lights, fans, air conditioners, streetlights, and electric vehicles. EESL’s transparent procurement processes, overseen by CVC, have enabled them to distribute millions of these products, resulting in substantial energy savings, reduced peak demand, and greenhouse gas emissions.
“National Efficient Cooking Programme” (NECP), launched by the Hon’ble Union Power Minister on 2nd November 2023 in New Delhi, is a subset of the Clean Cooking Scheme. NECP focuses on Non-Solar/Electricity-based Induction Cooktops, aligning with the Go-electric initiative by the Ministry of Power. EESL has already initiated efforts to promote clean and safe electric cooking to support India’s Go-electric campaign and contribute to carbon mitigation goals.
The Prime Objective of the program is to Promote Electric/Induction cooking in areas with reliable electricity, especially for institutions/households. This program has many advantages which include 80-85% efficiency, reducing LPG and kerosene use, and bulk procurement for cost-effective induction stoves across India.
The program aims to revolutionize cooking practices, and its initial phase commenced in the pleasing Union Territory of Ladakh in December 2023. Energizing the movement, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has now set its sights on Tripura to replicate the project execution of NECP in the State.
As a forward-looking step towards achieving the vision of sustainable development through clean cooking and clean energy outlined by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, this noble initiative aims to make Tripura the first state in the country where every household utilizes induction-based cooking, a method known to be 25-30% more efficient than traditional cooking methods.
This initiative not only signifies a technological leap but also aligns with broader sustainability goals, setting the stage for Tripura to emerge as a pioneer in clean cooking practices. The NECP’s inauguration marks a pivotal moment in Tripura’s journey towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.
Swapan Debbarma, General Manager (Technical),TSECL delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Sarvjit Singha Dorga, Director (Finance), TSECL, Tapan Kumar Das, IAS Director, Social Welfare & Social Education Govt. of Tripura delivered the valuable speech on the occasion . Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL and many other dignitaries were present in the programme. Nitin Bhatt, Deputy General Manager-Public Relation & Corporate Sales, EESL and National Programme Head NECP has concluded the ceremony with vote of thanks.
