With the initiative of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of Tripura has been inaugurated Synthetic Turf Football Ground at Umakanta mini stadium, Agartala on Friday (4th November, 2022). Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated Synthetic Turf Football Ground by cutting the ribbon. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for installing flood lights for day-night matches on the ground.
“Any kind of sports plays an important role in brain development as well as building healthy society by keeping the young generation away from drug addictions”, said Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha while the inauguration of Synthetic Turf Football Ground at Umakanta. The Chief Minister also said, this synthetic turf football ground has been constructed as per the guidelines of the international football organization, FIFA.
“Historic day for sports in the state”, said Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma. Deputy Chief Minister also said, sport plays an important role in building a spirit of competition and cooperation among the youth as well as in building human character. Hon’ble Youth Affairs & Sports, Information & Cultural Affairs, PWD (DWS) Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, initiatives were taken to construct such Synthetic Turf Grounds at Jirania, Mohanpur and Belonia including Agartala under the special assistance scheme of the Central Government. The Youth Affairs & Sports Minister thanked the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister for providing financial assistance for constructing these grounds.
Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports Department Dr. P. K. Chakraborty delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, Director of the department Subikash Debbarma, Padmashri Dipa Karmakar, Secretary of Tripura Sports Council Amit Rakshit, Secretary of Agartala Press Club & Vice President of Tripura Football Association Pranab Sarkar and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
