Mumbai, Maharashtra, 8th of August, 2026 : Taking a significant step toward sustainable development in India’s marine ingredients industry, the Indian Marine Ingredients Association (IMIA) has completed the second important phase of its national sustainability initiative. The Maharashtra–Goa Small Pelagic Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) and the Indian West Coast Multi-Species Trawler FIP have been incorporated into the national framework for responsible fisheries development.

The Indian Marine Ingredients Association aims to establish a coordinated framework for responsible fisheries management across the country and enhance India’s credibility in global markets. Through the concept of ‘One India–One Fishery Improvement Project’, the association is focusing on bringing fragmented efforts together under a common direction.

Dr. Mohammed Dawood Sait, President of the Association, said, “The inclusion of the Maharashtra–Goa Small Pelagic FIP and the West Coast Trawler FIP marks the second important phase of our national sustainability initiative. We will now work toward expanding this effort to Tamil Nadu through the proposed West Coast and East Coast FIPs.”

The initiative places strong emphasis on collaboration among fishermen, industry stakeholders, processing units, exporters, experts, and government agencies. The association believes that collective efforts can further strengthen the global recognition and credibility of India’s marine ingredients and seafood sectors.
