Agartala, Tripura, 2nd of April, 2026 : Under the World Bank-funded Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), implemented by the Tribal Welfare Department, inspiring success stories are emerging from the fisheries sector in North Tripura and Unakoti districts, reflecting the transformative impact of scientific aquaculture on rural livelihoods.

In Pecharthal block of Unakoti district, Mohamaya Das from Jonardan Para has successfully adopted improved fish farming practices with project support and harvested around 400 kg of Indian Major Carp (IMC) from a 1 kani pond, generating substantial income and setting a strong example for fellow farmers. Similarly, Hena Bala Das of Prabat Fishery Producer Group has demonstrated commendable progress by harvesting 250 kg of fish, sold at ₹300 per kg, while an additional 100 kg remains in the pond, indicating further income potential.

These success stories have been made possible through the continuous support and guidance of the District Project Management Unit (DPMU), North Tripura, which has played a crucial role in ensuring effective implementation through regular field visits, technical handholding, and strong community mobilization. The proactive efforts of the DPMU have enabled beneficiaries to adopt scientific practices, enhance productivity, and move towards sustainable and income-generating fisheries livelihoods across the region.
