Agartala, 4th of December 2023 : Interventional Closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) was successfully completed for the first time at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital. Cardiologists of the state completed this rare surgery without open heart surgery.
The 54 years old female, resident of Pratapgarh, Agartala was suffering from a hole in between two upper chambers of heart since birth. It was causing blood to leak abnormally and causing her heart failure. She was admitted to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP) Hospital. Patient didn’t required any open heart surgery. ASD was closed by trans catheter method without any need for open heart surgery. Procedure completed successfully and patient was discharged next day on 2nd December, 2023 from Department of Cardiology. Patient is now doing well.
