On the first day, health camps were conducted at around 50 locations nationwide, including in Assam. In Bongaigaon, a health camp was successfully organised, witnessing the participation of approximately 103 people. Around 70 patients received free medical consultations and medicines. Among the total attendees, 40 were women and 30 were senior citizens. The observance of Janaushadhi Saptah 2026 will continue across Assam including Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Tinsukia, Karimganj and Hailakandi until 7th March.

Janaushadhi Saptah 2026, an outreach initiative aimed at creating awareness about affordable and quality generic medicines, commenced on 1st March with health check-up camps across the country. The week-long celebrations will culminate in the observance of the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas on 7th March.

In addition to providing on-site diagnostic services, the camps are engaging the general public on the availability of affordable and quality generic medicines at Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJAKs) established under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).

The camps are offering a comprehensive range of services, including general health check-ups, free blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, and thyroid tests. Doctor consultations cover general medicine, infections, chronic conditions, paediatric care, and specialist services such as nephrology and diabetology at several locations. Free distribution of Janaushadhi medicines is being carried out extensively. Additional services such as physiotherapy consultations, eye check-ups, and child health initiatives are also being organised at select centres.

Under PMBJP, more than 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) are currently operational across the country. The Government has set an ambitious target of expanding this network to 25,000 Kendras by 31st March 2027, further strengthening last-mile access to affordable and quality medicines.

The celebrations will continue through 7th March with various outreach programmes designed to engage healthcare professionals and the general public. Citizens are encouraged to use the “Jan Aushadhi Sugam” mobile application to locate their nearest Kendra and access affordable, quality medicines.
