Mumbai, Maharashtra,13th of December, 2025 : One of India’s most prestigious sporting institutions, Bombay Gymkhana, marked a historic milestone by celebrating 150 years of its illustrious journey (1875–2025) with the release of a special commemorative postage stamp. The stamp was formally unveiled by Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, making the occasion a proud confluence of India’s sporting heritage, postal legacy and national pride.

Speaking at the unveiling, Shri Scindia said that postage stamps are not merely collectibles, but living narratives of a nation’s history. The commemorative stamp honouring Bombay Gymkhana, he noted, pays tribute to an institution that has played a pioneering role in shaping India’s sporting culture for over a century and a half. He described the Gymkhana as a symbol of excellence, discipline and community spirit, adding that such institutions strengthen India’s identity on the global stage.
Founded in 1875, Bombay Gymkhana is recognised as India’s first authentic multi-sport ecosystem. Over the decades, it has nurtured world-class talent across sports such as cricket, hockey, tennis, badminton, squash and athletics. Legendary sportspersons including Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar and Mahesh Bhupathi have been closely associated with the club, further enhancing its stature.The release of the commemorative stamp is not merely a celebration of the past, but a powerful message for future generations—encouraging them to embrace sport, discipline and heritage.
