Khowai Police Arrest Driver Over Alleged Abduction And Harassment Of Class IX Student.

Khowai, Tripura, 18th of July 2026 : An alleged incident involving the abduction and harassment of a Class IX student has sparked outrage in Khowai. The minor girl was reportedly forced into a vehicle while travelling to school, leading to fear and anger among residents. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested by the Women’s Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

However, the main accused in the case is still absconding. According to reports, at around 10:30 am on Friday, a Class IX student left her home for school. When she reached the area, two youths allegedly travelling in a vehicle forcibly took her into the car. It is alleged that a youth named Rajesh Debnath harassed the minor girl inside the moving vehicle.

After some time, the accused allegedly dropped her by the roadside and fled from the spot. The girl, who was reportedly distressed following the incident, later stopped an auto-rickshaw and sought help from the driver. The auto driver contacted her family members, who reached the spot and took the minor to the Women’s Police Station, where a written complaint was lodged.

Based on the complaint, police launched a prompt investigation into the matter. During the course of the investigation, the vehicle driver Ashish Debnath was arrested. However, the prime accused, Rajesh Debnath, has remained absconding since the incident.
