At around 2:00 PM on Sunday, Khowai Police intercepted a high-speed auto-rickshaw (registration number TR 04 C 2898) allegedly transporting cannabis near Kargil Tilla on the road leading to Hatkata under Khowai Police Station.
According to Khowai Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Krishna Dhan Sarkar, the operation was carried out based on a specific tip-off. During the raid, police seized approximately 40 kilograms of cannabis and arrested one alleged drug trafficker.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the contraband, as well as whether others were involved in the trafficking network.
According to the police, the seized cannabis has an estimated black-market value of around ₹6 lakh. Police also stated that there were two occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident, but one of them managed to escape.
The incident has sparked discussion in various quarters, with some questioning whether drug traffickers are now avoiding the main roads and instead using narrow interior routes in an attempt to evade police surveillance.

The seized cannabis, the vehicle, and the arrested suspect were later taken to Khowai Police Station. Police are continuing their investigation into the trafficking route and the motive behind using an auto-rickshaw to transport the contraband through interior roads.
The successful operation, which led to the seizure of the cannabis, the vehicle, and the arrest of one alleged trafficker, has been widely appreciated as a notable effort by Khowai Police in their ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
