From the morning, people paid tribute to the martyrs by offering floral tributes at memorials and observing moments of silence. Martyrdom Day was observed at various locations across the state under the initiative of the All India Kisan Sabha and the Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP). Leaders addressed the gatherings, highlighting the significance and historical importance of the day.
The state-level programme was observed at Paradise Chowmuhani, in Agartala, Tripura on Sunday (11th October, 2026). Aghore Debbarma, President of the Tripura State Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha, and Ratan Das, the state secretary, paid floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial.
Among others, State Secretariat members Siddikur Rahman, Swapna Bhowmik and Madhusudan Das, Sadar Sub-Divisional Secretary Animesh Mitra, President Jiban Deb, Jirania Sub-Divisional Secretary Paresh Pal, Dukli Sub-Divisional President Makhan Shil, and State Committee members Srinivas Banik, Babul Mishra and Pranab Deb Roy also offered floral tributes. Other leaders and activists were present at the programme to pay their respects to the martyrs.

Addressing the gathering, Ratan Das, State Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha, highlighted the historical significance of Golaghati Martyrs’ Day and paid tribute to the peasants who sacrificed their lives in 1948. He recalled that on 23 Ashwin that year, 13 peasant activists were killed by police firing on the banks of the Burima River while fighting against the exploitation of moneylenders. The All India Kisan Sabha and Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) observe the day every year to honour their sacrifice. This year marks the 79th observance of the commemorative day.
He stated that the peasants had sacrificed their lives while fighting against the exploitation of moneylenders, and their struggle continues to inspire farmers today. The All India Kisan Sabha continues to fight for the rights and interests of farmers, raising demands such as a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce, loan waivers and reductions in the prices of agricultural inputs. He added that the organisation’s struggle also extends to opposition to capitalism, feudalism, communalism and imperialism.
According to Ratan Das, the neo-fascist forces in power, which he alleged were protecting the interests of the exploiting classes, were subjecting the farming community, workers and ordinary people across the country to oppression. He said that the Kisan Sabha was actively participating in struggles against these forces, both independently and jointly with other organisations.
Describing the immortal martyrs of Golaghati as a guiding light for the ongoing struggle, he said that strengthening the farmers’ movement and the broader people’s movement would be the most fitting tribute to their sacrifice.
