Kolkata, West Bengal, 17th October, 2026 : NIP NGO – An Education & Cultural Centre for the Blind & other Differently Abled in collaboration have come up with organizing awards for Puja committees who are taking an endeavor to make their Pandals friendly for Senior Citizens and the Disabled where 250 Durga Puja Committees would be participating for the same. They have also launched Braille Durga Puja Guide.
The event was graced by the presence of a lot of eminent personalities like: Smt. Shatorupa, Spokesperson, BJP, WB & Trustee Indian Museum; Sri. Krishna Das Chatterjee, Social Worker; Sri. Subrata Roy, Trustee Kalyani Roy Memorial Trust; Mr. Ashif Shah, Past President of Rotary Club of Ballygunge; Sri. Debajyoti Roy, Secretary of NIP NGO along with many other eminent personalities.
Speaking to the media, Sri. Debajyoti Roy, Secretary of NIP NGO said, “Durga Puja is a celebration of unity, compassion and togetherness, and its joy should be accessible to everyone, irrespective of their physical abilities or age. Through the Braille Durga Puja Guide, we are striving to empower visually impaired devotees to experience the festival with greater independence and dignity. With the Differently Abled & Senior Citizen Friendly Durgotsab Awards 2026, our aim is to encourage Puja committees to go beyond traditional celebrations and create inclusive, accessible and barrier-free pandals. We believe that true celebration lies in ensuring that every individual, including persons with disabilities and senior citizens, can participate comfortably and wholeheartedly in Bengal’s biggest festival.”
Background of NIP NGO: (National Institute of Professionals) NIP NGO – An Education & Cultural Centre for the Blind & other Differently Abled. NIP was awarded with the “STATE AWARD” on December 3, 2012. Besides, it has been organizing a number of awareness camps in different parts of Kolkata and other districts of West Bengal. NIP aims towards helping the blind and differently abled in every possible way. It has also been organizing All Bengal Chess Competition and T-20 Cricket Tournament for the blinds, etc.
