Dharmanagar, Tripura, 3rd of May 2026 : The railway gate at Jor Kalbart, located on the outskirts of the busy town of Dharmanagar in North Tripura, has become a major source of inconvenience for local residents. Every day, thousands of people face serious difficulties as the gate remains closed for extended periods before train movements.According to locals, the gate is often shut 30 to 35 minutes before a train arrives. Even after the train reaches the station, the gate is not reopened promptly. Due to multiple railway lines at Dharmanagar Railway Station and ongoing operations such as shunting and loading/unloading of goods trains, the gate frequently remains closed for hours.

This situation has particularly affected school and college students, daily commuters, and patients requiring urgent medical attention. In many cases, ambulances and patients on the way to hospitals get stuck at the crossing, raising serious concerns about life-threatening delays. Office-goers also lose valuable time waiting at the gate.The problem becomes even more severe during the movement of freight trains. Long traffic jams build up on both sides of the gate, effectively bringing transportation in the area to a standstill.In light of these ongoing issues, local residents are demanding the immediate construction of a railway overbridge at this crucial point. They argue that in modern times, it is unacceptable to keep a vital crossing closed for hours, causing such widespread disruption.

Residents have urged railway authorities and senior administrative officials to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest. It remains to be seen whether any concrete steps will be taken to address this long-standing problem or if the people of Dharmanagar will continue to endure this daily hardship.
