Khowai, Tripura, 13th of January, 2025 : With the initiative of Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Khowai Mandal observed Martyr’s Day at Singicherra under Khowai Assembly Constituency on Monday (13th January, 2025). Commemorated the memory of killing sixteen people. 23 years ago, on January 13, 2002, on the same day, in the evening, a massacre took place in Bazar No. 2 of Singicherra, under Khowai Assembly Constituency . On the eve of Paush Sankranti, when the buyers and sellers of the village were doing their business, ATTF militants from the direction of Lata Bari staged an ambush on the market. They started firing indiscriminately, killing 16 people.

The people of Khowai have not forgotten this horrific scene of the entire market. After the change of government in the state in 2018, the current ruling party has paid tribute to the martyrs every year on January 13. This time too, the Bharatiya Janata Party Khowai Mandal Committee is organizing a programme to commemorate the martyrs at Singicherra Bazar No. 2 at 9 am today.

This is the first time a memorial has been built here in memory of the martyrs. 16 candles were lit and wreaths were laid to pay tribute to the martyrs. Amidst participants there were Bharatiya Janata Party Khowai District Committee General Secretary Samir Kumar Das, Mandal President Anukul Das, Chairman of Khowai Municipal Council Debasish Nath Sharma, Mandal General Secretary Animesh Nag, Vice President Pranab Biswas, Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tinku Bhattacharjee, BJP leaders Parimal Debnath, Vijay Kumar Nath, martyr’s family members and many others remained present in the events.

The Manda has informed that, the first time that a rally will be held in memory of these martyrs. The rally will be held on January 17 at 2 pm at the grounds of Singicherra School. The state leadership will be present at this rally.
