Dharmanagar, Tripura, 2nd of June, 2026 : MGNREGA employees in Tripura have intensified their demand for job regularization and other service-related benefits. On Monday afternoon, the All Tripura MGNREGA Employees Welfare Association submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of North Tripura district.According to the organization, MGNREGA employees have been playing a significant role in rural development and employment generation activities since 2007.

Despite their dedicated service over the years, they claim to have been deprived of job security, proper salary structures, and other employment benefits. The association leaders stated that employees have not received their salaries for the last two months, pushing many of them into severe financial hardship. As a result, they are struggling to repay bank loans, meet their children’s educational expenses, and manage daily household needs. Many employees and their families are reportedly living under considerable uncertainty. The organization also pointed out that salaries have not been revised in line with rising market prices, making it increasingly difficult for employees to cope with the cost of living.
Although steps were taken in 2012 to revise the pay structure, the principle of “equal pay for equal work” has yet to be implemented for graduate and diploma-holder employees, they alleged. In the memorandum, the association placed a five-point charter of demands, including regularization of all MGNREGA employees from their date of joining, improvement of the salary structure, introduction of an annual increment of 3 to 5 percent, fixation of the retirement age at a minimum of 65 years, and provision of dearness allowance (DA) and other financial benefits on par with government employees.
According to the association, these demands are not merely about financial benefits but are also linked to recognition of their years of service, hard work, and professional dignity. The representatives expressed hope that the administration would seriously consider the matter and take positive steps at the earliest.
