Agartala, Tripura, 11th of June, 2025 : Techno India University, Tripura (TIUT) held a grand felicitation ceremony on Tuesday to honour Mr. Aritra Roy, the first mountaineer from Tripura to scale Mount Everest. A passionate athlete and adventure enthusiast, Mr. Roy summited the world’s highest peak on May 19, 2025, as a part of a two-and-a-half-month-long multi-sport triathlon expedition—a first-of-its-kind adventure in India that combined endurance cycling, marathon running, and high-altitude mountaineering.

Roy embarked on this extraordinary journey on March 16, 2025, from the historic Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, cycling over 1300 Km in 21 days to reach Nepal. This was followed by the successful ascent of Mount Everest and a 40-Km marathon. This unique triathlon not only tested physical stamina but symbolized the fusion of determination, athleticism, and daring exploration.

The felicitation event, held at the university campus, began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Dilip Sarkar, Dean of Students’ Welfare. In his speech, Prof. Sarkar urged students to draw inspiration from Mr. Roy’s unwavering perseverance and indomitable spirit. “Mr. Roy’s journey is a living example of what relentless determination and hard work can achieve,” he remarked.

Prof. Dr. Ratan Kumar Saha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of TIUT, presented Mr. Roy with a ceremonial shawl and memento in recognition of his historic accomplishment. While addressing the gathering, Prof. Saha said, “Mr. Roy’s achievements are not just personal milestones, but a source of collective pride for the entire state. His journey will motivate countless young minds in Tripura to pursue their dreams fearlessly. He has demonstrated that with courage and commitment, even the most daunting goals can be achieved.”

The event was made even more special by the presence of Mr. Roy’s mother, who expressed heartfelt joy and pride over her son’s unparalleled success. “This is a dream come true,” she shared emotionally, “and I am proud that my son’s dedication has brought such honour to our family and state.”

Mr. Roy delivered an inspiring talk in which he spoke about the significance of following one’s passion. “It is very important to believe in one’s dreams and set priorities accordingly,” he said. Outlining his future goals, Roy added, “My target is to scale the highest summits of seven different continents. So far, I have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt. Elbrus in Europe in 2023. Everest was a major milestone, but there is still a long journey ahead.”

He also applauded the efforts of TIUT’s Adventure Club, Voyanex, and encouraged students to actively participate in outdoor and adventure activities. “Adventure teaches you discipline, resilience, and humility. I am glad to see institutions like TIUT promoting such pursuits,” he noted.

The event concluded with an enthusiastic interaction between Mr. Roy and the students, many of whom expressed newfound motivation to challenge themselves beyond conventional academic goals.

Mr. Aritra Roy’s accomplishment stands as a beacon of courage and inspiration for the youth of Tripura and beyond, reminding us all that with vision and perseverance, even the highest peaks can be conquered.
