Mumbai, Maharashtra, 9th of May 2026 : Strengthening industrial and trade ties between India and the United Kingdom, the ‘UK-India Textile Machinery Alliance’ was officially launched at a grand event in Mumbai. Initiated jointly by the British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA) and the India ITME Society, the strategic platform aims to enhance technological, commercial, and industrial collaboration between the textile machinery sectors of both countries.

The event was inaugurated by India’s Textile Commissioner Vrinda Desai in the presence of senior officials from the British Deputy High Commission’s trade and commerce division, leading textile entrepreneurs, and global industry experts. The alliance has been designed to connect India’s textile sector with advanced British technologies in automation, digitization, and modern machinery, enabling Indian manufacturers to strengthen their global competitiveness.
India’s textile industry is currently targeting a market size of 350 billion dollars by 2030. Government initiatives such as PM MITRA Parks and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme have accelerated the demand for modern textile machinery across the country. Industry reports suggest that nearly 53 percent of Indian textile mills are planning machinery upgrades within the next three years. The new alliance is expected to provide Indian manufacturers access to high-quality and cost-effective technologies.
Speakers at the event highlighted that the proposed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to be implemented this year, may eliminate import duties on several textile machinery products from the UK, giving a major boost to bilateral trade. The partnership is also expected to encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices in the textile sector.
Textile Commissioner Vrinda Desai said, “India’s textile sector is undergoing rapid technological transformation. This alliance will connect Indian industries with world-class machinery and innovation, preparing them for the future.” British trade representatives stated, “This partnership between the UK and India is not limited to trade alone. It will become a shared platform for technology exchange, innovation, and sustainable industrial development.”

In the coming months, the alliance plans to organize webinars, international exhibitions, business delegations, and technical interaction programs to facilitate direct engagement and new business opportunities between entrepreneurs from both nations.
