Agartala, Tripura, 5th of August, 2025 : With the jointly initiative of Food and Agricultural Department Government of Tripura to start the procurement of Paddy under Minimum Support Price (MSP), from today (5th August, 2025) at Jirania, Agartala, Tripura. In the presence of many distinguished dignitaries Hon’ble food, civil supplies & consumer affairs, transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the purchase of paddy by lighting the lamp.

Addressing at the inaugural ceremony of the event, Hon’ble food, civil supplies & consumer affairs minister Sushanta chowdhury said that important initiatives like purchasing paddy at MSP ice have rekindled confidence and hope in the minds of farmers. The positive impact of this initiative has already started to be reflected. Farmers are now cultivating the land that used to lie fallow. Interest in agricultural work has increased a lot among farmers.

Highlighting on the event, the Food Minister remarked that purchasing paddy at minimum support price is one of the public welfare programs that have been taken after the new Government took office. Strengthening the financial base of farmers is one of the goals of the Central and State Governments. Purchasing paddy at support price is not just a program, through which it will be possible to increase the income of farmers and the foundation of the State’s agriculture-based economy will be further strengthened. He said that no such significant program was taken for farmers during the previous Government. As a result, farmers lost interest in agriculture.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jirania Jirania SDM Animesh Dhar delivered a welcome address at the inaugural session of the event today. Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were, Special Secretary of the Food Department Debapriya Bardhan, Director of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Phani Bhushan Jamatia, Director of the Food Department, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Sumit Lodh, Vice Chairperson of Rani Bazar Municipal Council Prabir Kumar Das, Social activist Gaurang Bhowmik, Ranjit Roy Chowdhury and many others remained present in the meeting.
