Dharmanagar, Tripura, 30th of May 2026 : Panisagar Police successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle cannabis through the railway route and arrested one alleged drug trafficker with around 19 kilograms of dry cannabis. The accused has been identified as Swapan Nath.

According to police sources, acting on a secret tip-off, police personnel conducted a search operation at Panisagar Railway Station. The accused was intercepted immediately after getting down from a train arriving from Agartala. During questioning and subsequent search, police recovered a huge quantity of dry cannabis from a bag carried by him.The banned narcotic substance was seized in the presence of local residents after the bag was opened publicly.
Officials, including the Deputy Collector Magistrate of Panisagar and other administrative officers, were present at the spot during the seizure operation.Police have taken the seized cannabis into custody and initiated further legal proceedings. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had reportedly visited his sister’s house in the Sidhai Mohanpur area, from where he allegedly collected the contraband and transported it to Panisagar by train. Investigators suspect that the cannabis was meant to be trafficked to another location from there.Police claimed that the estimated market value of the seized cannabis is around ₹9 lakh. A specific case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and the accused is currently being interrogated. Police are also investigating whether more people are involved in the smuggling network.
