Pig Farming Has Played A Significant Role In Tripura’s Rural Economy : Governor Of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu.

Agartala, Tripura, 21st of August, 2026 : Hon’ble Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu inaugurated a workshop on pig farming in latest technique at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, Tripura on Thursday (20th August, 2026). He visited the exhibition stalls opened on this occasion and exchanges views with the participating scientists, farmers and organisers.

Addressing the workshop Governor said, Tripura produces around 59.20 thousand MT meat in a year. The people of Tripura per head annually consumes nearly 14.15 kg meat. And a major share of this meat comes from pig. This indicates that how pig farming is important in the development of rural economy of Tripura. He said, the progressive pig farmers are not only producers, they are rural entrepreneurs and contribute to the state economy.

The Governor said, the state government is committed to creating a conducive environment for animal husbandry by facilitating technology, scientific knowledge, financial assistance and coordination between stakeholders. The state government aims to increase productivity, income of animal rearers, create employment, and develop pig farming as a lucrative and sustainable venture. He said, the animal resources development department is implementing various schemes to promote animal husbandry-based economic growth. Appreciating the progressive animal rearers he said, they have adopted new technology to drive animal husbandry forward. He wished success for the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, state Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das deliberated on various welfare schemes being implemented in the state for the animal rearers. He encouraged the people to take up pig farming in scientific method to make the best out of it as a means of livelihood. The workshop themed “Empowering Progressive Pig Farmers through Innovative and Scientific Technologies on Pig Farming” was organised jointly by the animal resources development department, All India Co-ordinated Research Project and National Livestock Mission.

At the event exhibition was held on different aspects of pig farming. A short documentary on pig farming was also screened. Ten successful pig farmers were felicitated at the event. The Governor greeted them for their success. Welcome address was delivered by the secretary of animal resources development department S. Prabhu. Director of the department Dr. N. K. Chanchal proposed the vote of thanks. The experts deliberated on topics like health and disease prevention on pigs, scientific reproduction and food management and farm management, marketing etc.
