“Plastic Free Tripura” Campaign Ceremony Organized By Tripura Pollution Control Board, Government Of Tripura.

With the initiative of Tripura Pollution Control Board Government of Tripura under Science, Technology and Environment department organized Plastic Free Tripura Campaign (Plastic Mukta Tripura Abhijan) an initiative for elimination of single use plastic items at Town Hall, Agartala on Saturday (15th July, 2023). In the presence of many dignitaries Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha launched Plastic Free Tripura Campaign.

“Single use plastics have become a curse to human civilization. Not only does the environment get polluted due to the negative effects of plastic but it also affects our body. Therefore, public awareness must be generated upon stopping usage of plastics in order to ensure sustainability on Earth”, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said at the launching ceremony of Plastic Free Tripura Campaign (Plastic Mukta Tripura Abhijan). The Chief Minister said, it is our duty to keep our environment safe. Every aware citizen is ought to keep their house as well as the surroundings clean. The Chief Minister appealed to all the citizens to keep their localities clean and to throw wastes at a particular place instead of throwing elsewhere. He said, a single use plastic consists of about 13 thousand chemicals in it. Among which, about 3 thousand 200 chemicals are harmful for human body. As a result of using such plastics, different kinds of diseases arise in human body.

The Chief Minister emphasized upon publicising hugely on stopping use of plastics. He also added that  public-awareness based programmes must be taken up on the negative effects of using plastic in schools, colleges, villages etc. of the state. All citizens must come forward taking the responsibility to build Plastic-free Tripura. The Chief Minister also emphasized upon keeping all schools, colleges and office buildings of the state clean. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to build a single use plastic-free India must be delivered across the state through public awareness. The Chief Minister hoped for everyone’s cooperation in building a plastic-free Tripura.

Principal Secretary of Science, Technology & Environment department, K. S. Sethi delivered the welcome speech on the occasion. The Chief Minister unveiled the book cover on Plastic Free Tripura (Plastic Mukta Tripura). Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Additional DGP Saurav Tripathi, Member Secretary of Tripura Pollution Control Board Dr. Bishu Karmakar, Hon’ble Mayor, Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder and many other dignitaries remained present in the programme. This month-long programme will continue till August 14. Director of Science, Technology & Environment department, Animesh Das has concluded the ceremony with vote of thanks.​
