PM-KISAN Scheme : Sarbananda Sonowal Applauds PM Modi As Farmers Of Assam Receives Financial Benefits.

Guwahati, Assam, 3rd of August, 2025 : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday (2nd August, 2025) released the 20th installment of Rs 20,500 crore under the  Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Varanasi. The installment was credited directly to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore eligible farmer beneficiaries across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

On this occasion, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, and Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, virtually joined the nationwide programme from Dibrugarh and Kamrup respectively.

In Dibrugarh the program was organised at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dibrugarh, by Assam Agricultural University in collaboration with the District Agriculture Department. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal interacted with farmers during the event and called for an accelerated effort to enhance agricultural productivity.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that the farmers are the backbone of the nation. He said that through  initiatives like PM-KISAN, the Modi Government is not only providing direct financial assistance but also ushering in a new era of agrarian empowerment. The minister urged every farmer to become an active partner in India’s unstoppable journey towards economic progress.

He further highlighted that more than Rs 3.7 lakh crore has already been transferred to farmers across the country in annual installments of Rs 6,000, ensuring socio-economic security at the grassroots level.

The event in Dibrugarh was graced by several dignitaries, including MLAs Shri Ponakan Baruah, Shri Binod Hazarika, Shri Chakradhar Gogoi, and Shri Rituparna Baruah, Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation.

In Kamrup, the event was held at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kamrup Campus. Union Minister of State Shri Pabitra Margherita attended the programme alongside Shri Atul Bora, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, etc., Government of Assam.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Margherita said that the The PM-KISAN installment of Rs 6,000 provides crucial relief to farmers. Over the past 11 years, the country has witnessed significant development, and this scheme is a testament to the government’s resolve to uplift the farming community, he added.

The event saw participation from a host of dignitaries, including Shri Hemanga Thakuria, MLA, Palashbari; Dr. Kadirvel Govindasamy, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati; Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat; and Dr. P. Uday Praveen, Director of Agriculture and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Agriculture Department. Senior officials, agricultural scientists also attended the event.

As part of yesterday’s release, an amount of Rs 499.03 crore was disbursed to approximately 21 lakh farmers in Assam.
