Sabroom, Tripura, 3rd of September, 2026 : Several residents of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat have alleged that they have been deprived of the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) after their applications for housing assistance were reportedly rejected without prior notification or an opportunity to rectify mistakes.
According to affected applicants, numerous applications submitted under the housing scheme were allegedly cancelled directly by the Nagar Panchayat. Residents claim that when errors, incomplete information, or other discrepancies were found in applications, the concerned applicants were not contacted and were allegedly not given an opportunity to make corrections.
The applicants further allege that their applications were rejected without proper notification, leaving many beneficiaries unaware of the specific reasons behind the rejection. Some residents say they only came to know about the status of their applications after making inquiries.
The issue has reportedly created frustration among people who had hoped to receive assistance under the government’s housing programme. Residents have questioned whether adequate procedures were followed before applications were rejected and whether eligible applicants were given a fair opportunity to correct documentation or application-related errors.

Local residents have also raised allegations regarding the conduct of certain Nagar Panchayat employees and elected Panchayat members. They claim that their grievances were not handled with sufficient sensitivity and that greater accountability should be maintained when dealing with applications intended for economically vulnerable families.
The affected residents are demanding a transparent review of all rejected applications. They want the authorities to provide written reasons for rejection and, wherever permitted under the applicable scheme rules, give eligible applicants an opportunity to correct deficiencies and resubmit their applications.
Residents have also called for an examination of the notification and verification process followed by the Nagar Panchayat. They argue that beneficiaries should not lose access to a government welfare scheme simply because of an administrative error or inadequate communication.
The controversy has prompted calls for greater transparency and accountability in the implementation of PMAY in the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat area. Residents are urging the concerned authorities to investigate the allegations, review the rejected applications, and ensure that genuinely eligible beneficiaries are not unfairly excluded.
The central question raised by the affected residents is whether applications that contained correctable errors should have been rejected without first informing the applicants and providing an opportunity for correction, where the rules allow such an opportunity.
The allegations made by residents have not been independently verified. The official response from Sabroom Nagar Panchayat and the concerned government authorities will be important in establishing the facts and determining whether proper procedures were followed.
