Khowai, Tripura, 5th of December, 2025 : Khowai is known as a city of culture — a city recognized not only within the state but throughout the entire northeastern region. However, over the past decade, this cultural identity has been on the verge of being destroyed due to the grip of illegal drugs. The reputation and cultural hub of Khowai city have been fading. Although the police had been trying to curb the rising spread of illegal drugs, they were not truly able to rein it in effectively.
The parents of Khowai town and its suburbs were living in constant worry. Letting their sons and daughters step out of the house had become a source of anxiety. The dealers of illegal, deadly drugs had spread a network of unlawful trade across all of Khowai. Although the police were able to arrest some of the peddlers, they could not catch the major kingpins behind the illegal drug operations.
It was at this time, about six months ago, that Rana Deepta Das took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Khowai district. Under his leadership, his department deployed several police personnel in police on civil dress across Khowai. Over the past six months, these police officers have been able to identify and bring under the law both illegal drug dealers and drug users in Khowai town and its drug areas. As a result, everyone from small to large criminals has fallen under the police supervision. The intellectual community of Khowai is quite delighted with this entire development. They have expressed their reactions regarding the plain-clothes police and the police department’s campaign against illegal drugs.
