Agartala, Tripura, 29th of August, 2024 : You are aware that extremely heavy and continuous rainfall during the period 19-23 August 2024; caused unprecedented floods in the State. The Water level of Gomati River at Sonamura is reducing slowly, but still above the flood level.
2. The floods situation is being closely monitored at the highest level. Considering the gravity of the situation, leading to loss of human lives and public & private properties, the State Government has decided to declare the entire state as “Natural Calamity Affected Area”. Accordingly, a Notification to this effect has been issued.
3. Total 32 (thirty-two) persons have lost their lives, 2 (two) are injured and 1 (one) person is reported to be missing.
4. As on date, 346 relief camps are operational by District Administration, providing shelter to around 52,906 persons in the State. The District Administration is providing necessary relief, including food, drinking water and medical help etc. To prevent spreading of any water borne diseases, regular cleaning of toilets, bleaching, disinfectant spraying and hygienic environment in shelter houses has been ensured.
5. The Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Shri B. C. Joshi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi arrived yesterday in the State. They held a preliminary meeting with the officials of the State Government. A detailed briefing was given yesterday itself to the team on flood situation and preliminary damage assessment.
6. The IMCT has today gone out in field for on-the-spot damage assessment in affected areas of South Tripura and Gomati Districts. District Disaster Management Authorities led by respective DM & Collector and consisting of officials from different departments have taken preparatory steps to facilitate IMCT in on-the-spot assessment of damages.
7. To tackle the fallout of floods on health aspects, doctors have visited 1271 times different relief camps to treat 37,596 persons. In addition, they have carried out 1,867 health camps to conduct health checkup of 43,887 persons.
8. The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under SBM(G) Tripura has issued comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to (a) Solid Waste Management, (b) Waste Water Management, and (c) Safe Sanitation Practices. These SOPs aim to mitigate the risk of water-borne diseases, ensure safe disposal of waste, promote healthy & sanitation practices and help in post flood recovery in affected areas.
9. As on date, 100% power supply has been restored in 18 power divisions. The power supply is around 70%-90% in rest 6 divisions which are located in South Tripura, Gomati & Sepahijala Districts due to water logging. These too will be completed in 2-3 days, provided water level comes down.
10. All 4734 Schools in the State have been opened except 163 schools which are yet to be re-opened. These schools are in four districts namely Dhalai (14), Sepahijala (33), Gomati (65) and South Tripura (51).
11. As you know Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) started functioning since yesterday. As on date, 9,278 AWCs are physically functional and Take home Ration’ is being given in 934 AWCs. Rest 10 AWCs are still under water and will be started once water recedes.
12. Labourers have been badly affected due to recent floods, resulting in loss of livelihood and income to them. The Labour Department has decided to provide one-time financial assistance to registered construction workers @ Rs.4000 per worker from the labour cess. This decision will benefit 42,981 registered construction workers in the state and provide them an amount of Rs. 17.20 Cr.
13. RR & DM Department had informed you previously that a committee headed by Shri Prashant Badal Negi, IAS, Director, Tourism Department along with officers from other department has been constituted to interact with NGOs for collection and re-distribution of relief materials received on donation. The Committee has held its first meeting with NGOs and chalked out a detailed plan in consultation with the District Nodal Officer, for sending relief materials to needy people.
14. All those people, NGOs and organisations interested in donating relief material to floods affected people can get in touch with this team to give donations in kind. It is requested that only those items should be donated which are usable, in good condition, clean and fully sanitized. Food articles should safe and within the expiry date.
