Dharmanagar, Tripura, 21st of August, 2026 : Demnding the immediate withdrawal of E-20 petrol, the Dharmanagar Divisional Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest in Dharmanagar on Thursday (20th August, 2026), along with similar programmes held across the state. The protest was organised in front of Sarala Petrol Pump in Dharmanagar. Along with the demonstration, DYFI members distributed leaflets among motorists and bikers visiting the petrol pump, creating awareness about issues surrounding E-20 petrol.According to DYFI, the Central Government’s policies have led to an increase in the use of ethanol-blended E-20 petrol across the country.

The organisation alleged that reports of mechanical problems in some vehicles have emerged from different parts of the country following the use of such fuel. Protesters further claimed that vehicle owners are consequently facing additional expenses. The protesters said that, considering the safety of vehicles owned by ordinary citizens and the additional financial burden on them, the Centre should reconsider its policy regarding E-20 petrol. They demanded that the use of E-20 petrol be stopped immediately and that effective measures be taken in the interest of the general public. Those present at the programme included DYFI Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Arjun Nath, Sub- Divisional Committee members Bidyut Deb, Ranjit Nath and Abdul Sajid. CPI(M) State Secretariat member Amitabh Dutta, along with other DYFI activists and supporters, also attended the programme.
