Protest In Dharmanagar Demanding Election Commissioner’s Resignation; Effigy Burnt.

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 11th of October, 2026 :  The CPI(M) organised a protest in Dharmanagar to condemn the alleged use of force against protesters in Delhi. The demonstration was held in connection with a movement in Delhi demanding the resignation of India’s Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. Party leaders, workers and supporters expressed their anger by burning an effigy of the Election Commissioner.

The protest gathering was held at the CPI(M)’s Dharmanagar sub-divisional office, where party members condemned the alleged use of force against CPI(M) workers from Tripura who were participating in the protest in Delhi. According to party leaders, every citizen has the right to express dissent peacefully in a democratic system. They said allegations of repression against protesters exercising this right were a matter of concern for the democratic environment.

As part of the protest, an effigy of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was burnt. Through this act, CPI(M) leaders and workers voiced their opposition to the incident in Delhi and reiterated their demand for his resignation.Those present at the programme included Amitabha Datta, a member of the CPI(M) State Secretariat, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Secretary Ratan Roy, and other party leaders, workers and supporters.The gathering also highlighted the importance of united movements involving students, youth, workers, farmers and agricultural labourers.

The participants further called for the protection of democratic rights and the preservation of the right to peaceful protest.Through the demonstration in Dharmanagar, the CPI(M) reiterated its opposition to the alleged use of force against protesters in Delhi and renewed its demand for the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
