Pump Exists, But No Service—Where Is The Administration’s Attention?

Dharmanagar, Tripura, 3rd of September, 2026 : On one hand, there are repeated claims of development; on the other, residents are struggling for drinking water. Such a contradictory picture has emerged in the Bhagyapur Gram Panchayat area under the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency.Residents have been suffering from inadequate drinking water supply for a long time.

According to local residents, the water supply pipeline, which was installed nearly 40 years ago, has now become completely damaged. Despite the deteriorating condition of the pipeline, no effective initiative has reportedly been taken to repair or replace it.The old water supply system revolves around a water pump located near the Kali Temple in front of the Bhagyapur BSF camp.

However, despite the presence of the pump, residents allege that the benefits of the government infrastructure are not reaching their homes because of the damaged and dysfunctional pipeline.This has triggered growing resentment among local residents. Their question is straightforward: if a pipeline that has been in use for decades has become virtually unusable, why has no permanent measure been taken to replace it? If a water pump and pipeline cannot ensure even the basic drinking-water needs of the people, who is responsible for maintaining and monitoring such public infrastructure?Residents further allege that the problem is not new. Despite the prolonged water-supply crisis, no visible permanent solution has been initiated by the concerned department or administration.

As a result, many families are being forced to depend on alternative sources of water, causing severe hardship in their daily lives.The biggest question now concerns administrative monitoring. If a drinking-water pipeline has remained damaged for years, why did the concerned authorities fail to take timely action? Is there actually any system of regular inspection and maintenance? Recently, reports of public anger and protests over prolonged drinking-water shortages have also emerged from other parts of Dharmanagar subdivision. This raises the question of whether the crisis in Bhagyapur is merely an isolated incident or part of a wider failure in drinking-water management.

Local residents are now demanding more than assurances. They want the authorities to conduct an immediate on-site inspection, replace the damaged pipeline, repair the water pump and ensure regular drinking-water supply.Drinking water is a basic necessity, not a privilege. The people of Bhagyapur have already endured years of a failing system. The question now is: how much longer will they be forced to live with broken pipelines and inadequate water supply? The administration must provide an answer.
