Dharmanagar, Tripura, 9th of July 2026 : Continuous monsoon rainfall has caused the Juri and Kakri rivers in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, to swell significantly, raising concerns over possible flooding in the Dharmanagar College Road area. The rapidly rising water levels have left local residents worried about the developing situation. The Kakri River has reached close to the danger level.

Strong currents and muddy floodwaters have created panic among people living along the riverbanks, particularly those residing in low-lying areas who fear potential flooding. Residents say that every monsoon season, rising water levels in the Kakri River severely affect daily life. They allege that inadequate river maintenance, failure to remove accumulated silt, and poor drainage infrastructure frequently lead to waterlogging and flood-like conditions.

In view of the situation, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Debjani Chaudhary has issued a public advisory. She urged residents to contact the administration’s control room at 6033283651 in case of any emergency. She also appealed to the public to avoid going near rivers or other water bodies unless absolutely necessary, and specifically warned people against entering fast-flowing waters for fishing or any other purpose.

The administration is closely monitoring the situation round the clock. Officials stated that appropriate measures will be taken if the water level continues to rise. Considering the prevailing weather conditions, the SDM has urged all residents to remain vigilant and follow official safety advisories.
