Sabroom, Tripura, 18th of August 2025 : A theft incident has taken place at the Indo-Bangla border in Ramendranagar of Sabroom Manughat area, Sabroom Subdivision on Sunday (17th August, 2025). Locals is alleged that between 2 am and 2:30 am on Sunday, a group of Bangladeshi robbers entered Indian territory by cutting the barbed wire of the international border and stole two cows from two local families. The cows were the only source of income for the two families.

Information from local sources, that the members of the bandit group entered the house by breaking through the barbed wire with sharp weapons and cutting the ropes of the cows from the yard. Later, they smuggled the cows into Bangladesh by crossing the Feni River in the strong current and heavy rains. As soon as the matter came to light on Monday morning, tears and excitement spread throughout the village. But the surprising thing is that the incident site is just 50 meters away from the BSF watch tower post and there is also a watch tower about 30 feet high, from where the entire border area is supposed to be under surveillance. There is also a regular lighting system in the area. As a result, the question arises, how did the bandit group enter Indian territory under these circumstances, eluding the eyes of the BSF and then freely crossing the river with the cows and escaping to Bangladesh?

Locals complain that there has been no significant news of BSF action on the border for a long time. The armed jawans in charge of the 121st Battalion, are not playing a proper role in protecting the border, they allege. Many expressed their anger and said, “Crowns of rupees are being spent on border security, but in reality, the BSF has been indifferent to the name of duty and has left the people of the border villages in an unsafe condition.”

On the other hand, there is a fear among the villagers that if even cows can be taken away like this, then in the future, the bandits may commit major robberies in the houses in the border area at any time. Rumors are spreading in the area that some local anti-social youth may be involved in this act. Many are even claiming that it is impossible for such a big border crime to be committed without coming under the BSF’s control. The incident has sparked outrage and panic across the border. Villagers claim that the border is not secure today due to the negligence of the BSF in this regard and the central government should intervene quickly and take strict action against the irresponsible border guards. This has led to a tense situation with some residents fearing for their safety and livelihoods.
