Mumbai, Maharashtra, 25th of August, 2026 : Indian triathlon showcased its growing strength and expanding talent pool in Pune, with a record 449 athletes participating in the Indian Triathlon Federation Mini Orange National & Age-Group Triathlon Championship, held from August 14 to 16 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi.
The biggest highlight of the championship was Maharashtra’s Shashruti Vinayak Nakade, who clinched the gold medal in the Women’s PTS4_5 category, establishing herself as a strong contender in para-triathlon. Her achievement has brought renewed energy to India’s para-sport ambitions, with eyes now turning towards the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The championship featured 81 para-triathletes, while women accounted for 24.5% of the total participation. The Junior, Sub-Junior and KidsTRI categories also witnessed participation of nearly one-third of the athletes, underlining the sport’s expanding grassroots base.
Harish Prasad, Development Officer, Indian Triathlon Federation, said, “The record participation is an important milestone in the growth of Indian triathlon. The increasing participation of juniors, women, seniors and ParaTRI athletes shows that the sport is building a strong foundation across the country.”
The Pune championship was more than a celebration of medals. It reflected the growing aspirations of young and para-athletes who are dreaming of representing India and bringing glory to the country on the international stage.
