Agartala, Tripura/Kolkata, West Bengal, 3rd of September, 2026 : Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers presented ‘Uttam – The Mahanayak’, an exhibition to mark the birth centenary of Bengali cinema’s greatest actor – at the Jamini Roy Gallery of ICCR, Kolkata.
The presentation – an exhibition of memorabilia from ‘Mahanayak’ Uttam Kumar’s life and time – included film posters and publicity material, stills of his landmark films and photographs with legendary co-stars and other renowned film personalities of the time, gramophone record covers and other displays that reflect his larger-than-life image – and provides a trip down a popularly loved memory lane and all the associated romance of an era that belonged to Uttam Kumar.
The unveiling of the exhibition was attended by a host of star guests and a ‘house-full’ of Uttam Kumar aficionados.
And the programme of the day began with the release of a set of ‘Uttam Kumar Picture Postcards’ – with actress Debashree Roy, Mahua Chattopadhyay, daughter-in-law of Uttam Kumar and Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers doing the honours.
“I never got an opportunity to work with Uttam Kumar but I was fortunate to have interacted with him and experienced the ‘Mahanayak’ aura”, said Debashree Roy, adding, “And I take this opportunity to thank Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers to make me a part of this fond remembrance of a great actor who lived every role he played and is known for his inimitable style.”
“I was fortunate to have him as my father-in-law and, being a part of his family, got to feel his real-life presence which was just as starry as the one in the big screen and in the minds and hearts of his legion of fans.”
