Sonamura, Tripura, 27th of February, 2026 : On the basis of secret information Sonamura Police, in joint operations with 81 BN BSF, and other agencies, on Friday (27th February, 2026).

According to sources, on the basis of secret information, in a joint operation conducted by Sonamura Police Station and the 81 Bn BSF, one drug peddler was arrested. On September 8 last year, a total of 100 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup and 600 grams of Yaba tablets were recovered from his house. The Yaba tablets were packed in 30 blue-coloured plastic packets.
In connection with the seizure, a case was registered at Sonamura Police Station on that very day under the NDPS Act. However, on that day, Idris Miah and his wife Monowara Khatun were arrested in connection with the case, and they are still in judicial custody.
Based on the lead from this case, the above-mentioned drug peddler has been arrested. He had been absconding from his house since that day. His residence is located right at the zero point along the India–Bangladesh border.
A team from Sonamura Police is currently interrogating him. During questioning, the names of several other drug peddlers from the area have emerged. These names are being verified, and based on appropriate evidence, they will also be brought under the ambit of the law.
The name of the arrested drug peddler is Saddam Hossain (32), UNC Nagar, Fakiradula
