Sonamura Police Seize 143 Nos ESKUF Cough Syrup, Worth 11.37 Lakh.

Sonamura, Tripura, 12th of October, 2026 : An autorickshaw bearing registration number TR-07B-2981 was intercepted Sunday (11th October, 2026) night at Madhuban College Chowmuhani under Sonamura Police Station. During the operation, a total of 143 bottles of prohibited Eskuf cough syrup were reportedly recovered from the vehicle.

The driver and one other person were detained in connection with the incident. Police also seized ₹1,330 in Indian currency, suspected to be proceeds from the alleged illegal drug trade, along with their smartphones and relevant documents.

A case has been registered against the two individuals at Sonamura Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In connection with the same case, two more individuals were arrested from their respective residences this morning on suspicion of involvement in drug smuggling. They were produced before the court, where the police sought three days of police custody for interrogation. After examining the case diary, the court granted the police’s plea and remanded the two accused to three days of police custody.

A special interrogation team of Sonamura Police is currently questioning the accused at Sonamura Police Station. During the interrogation, investigators have reportedly obtained several names, which are now being thoroughly examined and analysed. Police expect that further investigation may lead to the identification and arrest of other major drug traffickers operating in the area, provided sufficient evidence is found.

The investigation has reportedly uncovered additional digital information from the accused persons’ mobile phones. The special police team is analysing the data to determine whether others are involved in the alleged drug trafficking operation. Any further arrests will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.
