Sonamura, Tripura, 29th of August, 2026 : Two minor boy was detained while riding a bike during vehicle checking in front of Sonamura PS on Thursday (28th August, 2026), and the vehicle owner was fined ₹50,000 under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to report, during routine vehicle checking in Sonamura, a motorcycle and a scotty were detained from the areas around Sonamura Girls’ School and Sonamura English Medium School. On inquiry, it was revealed that the vehicles were being operated by minor boys who had taken the keys from their guardians and gone out riding in Sonamura town.

The respective owners of the motorcycle and scotty were subsequently summoned by the authorities. After following all required legal procedures, a fine of ₹25,000 was imposed on each owner, amounting to ₹50,000 in total, for permitting minors to operate the vehicles and encouraging them to ride.

Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station requested to exercise responsibility and ensure that minors are not allowed to operate motorcycles, scooters, or other vehicles. Vehicle owners and guardians who permit minors to drive may be subjected to legal proceedings and hefty fines as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
