State Election Commission Announces TTAAD Village Committees Election On 28th September And Counting On 5th October, 2026.

Agartala, Tripura, 1st of September, 2026 : The Election Commission of Tripura Dr Pradip Kumar Chakraborty on Monday (31st August, 2026) announced the date of General Election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District (TTAAD) -Village Committees-2026 on 28th September, 2026. Tripura Election Commission said, on 1st September, 2026 (Tuesday) public notice relating to the elections issued.

In the press conference the Election Commission said, the submission of Nomination papers will continue till 8th September, 2026 (Tuesday). The date of Scrutiny has been fixed on September 9th, 2026 (Wednesday). The last date of withdrawal of nomination is September 11, 2026 (Friday). Date of Poll on September 28th, 2026 from 7 am to 4 pm (Monday). Counting of votes will be held on 5th September 2026, Counting of votes will start from 8 am. The entire election process will end on 8th October, 2026.

The Election Commission of Tripura statement –  The term of office of the elected bodies, i.e., TTAAD Village Committees (VC) expired in the normal course on 08-03-2021. In terms of the legal provisions, the process of the General Election to Village Committees for constitution of new bodies are required to be completed before the date of their expiration. Unfortunately, owing to the COVID pandemic in 2021, which prevailed throughout the country for a long time, the Village Committee Elections were not held in due time. The State Election Commission (SEC) had initiated the election process in year 2022 and the Commission had taken steps for notifying the electoral Authorities and Polling Stations and the Electoral Rolls by August, 2022. Despite that, the elections were further postponed due to certain other legal impediments arising out from time to time. However, the SEC, Tripura after having done the requisite preliminary exercise is now ready to embark upon conducting the General Election to TTAAD Village Committees-2026.

2. The figures relating to Village Committees, Constituencies and Seats as notified for the TTAAD Village Committee Election- 2026 are indicated as follows:

3. Appointment of District Election Officers (DEOS): The District Magistrate & Collectors of all 8(Eight) Districts of the State have been appointed District Election Officers to co-ordinate and supervise all works in the district and in the area within his/her jurisdiction in connection with preparation of Electoral Rolls (done already) and Conduct of Elections to the General-Election to Village Committees as provided under the provision of Rule-4 of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1996.

4. Appointment of Electoral Registration Officers (EROS) & Returning Officers (ROS):

The Block Development Officers of 52 (Fifty-Two) R.D. Blocks, namely,

(1) Dasda, (2) Laljuri, (3) Jampui Hill, (4) Kalachara, (5) Jubarajnagar, (6) Damcherra, (7) Panisagar, (8) Gournagar, (9) Chandipur, (10) Kumarghat, (11) Pecharthal, (12) Ambassa, (13) Ganganagar, (14) Chawmanu, (15) Manu,  (16) Raishyabari, (17) Dumburnagar, (18) Durgachowmuhani, (19) Salema, (20) Tulasikhar, (21) Padmabil, (22) Kalyanpur, (23) Teliamura, (24) Mungiakami, (25) Hezamara, (26) Lefunga, (27) Dukli, (28) Old Agartala, (29) Jirania, (30) Belbari, (31) Mandwi, (32) Boxanagar, (33) Kathalia, (34) Nalchar, (35) Mohanbhog, (36) Charilam, (37) Jampuijala, (38) Amarpur, (39) mpinagar, ( 40) Killa, (41) Matabari, (42) Kakraban, (43) Silachari, (44) Karbook, (45) Bokafa, (46) Jolaibari, (47) Rajnagar , (48) B.C. Nagar, (49) Hrishyamukh, (50) Rupaichari, (51) Satchand and (52) Poangbari, have been appointed EROs for the preparation of Electoral Rolls (Already done & published) of the Village Committee constituencies and also Returning Officers for the conduct of election for Village Committees as provided under the Provision of Rule-5 of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Preparation of Electoral Rolls) Rules, 1996 and under the provision of Rule-Sub-

Rule (1) of Rule 8 of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1996.

5. Appointment of Other Election Officials:

5.1 The State Election Commission has also appointed-

(a) 231 (Two Hundred and thirty-One) Asst. Returning Officers and

(b) 373 (Three hundred and Seventy-three) Sector Officers for the conduct of the TTAAD Village Committee Elections.

5.2 Further, processes are underway for appointment of around 8500 Polling personnel who will be deployed for the polling process at the respective Polling Stations.

5.3 The State Election Commission is going to appoint Election Observers for all the poll-bound Blocks to oversee the election process and ensure free and fair conduct of the poll process and report to the Commission.

6. Preparation of Electoral Rolls and Number of Electors:

6.1 The Electoral Rolls of the concerned Village Committee constituencies have been prepared by segregating the Assembly Electoral Rolls of the State revised with reference to 01.10.2025 as the qualifying date and taking into consideration the data of electors relating to the area comprised within the Village Committee constituencies.

6.2 The total electors of all the TTAAD Village Committee Constituencies as per the finally published Electoral Rolls are as follows:

Female :- 4,79,930

Third Gender :- 06

Total :- 9,61,977

7. Polling Stations relating to the VC Constituencies finalized:

Total number of Polling Stations is 1550 for concerned Village Committee constituencies, where Election(s) will be held.

8. Identification of Voters at Polling Stations: Compulsory identification of voters will be ensured at the polling stations. The electors, provided with Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), shall be identified through EPICS only. However, to ensure that no voter, enrolled in the Electoral Rolls, is deprived of his/her franchise, he/she will be allowed to produce alternative documents to establish his/her identity, apart from the EPIC. Necessary order in this regard will be issued in due course of time.

9. Nominations: The time period of filing nomination papers to the Returning

Officer of the concerned Village Committee constituency will be from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM except on public holiday(s) during the period of dates officially notified by the Returning Officer.

In other words, the nomination papers will be received by a Returning Officer between hours 11 O’clock in the forenoon and 3 O’clock in the afternoon on the notified period of dates except on public holidays.

10. Ballot Papers: Every elector will choose his/her candidate(s) by a secret Ballot. Ballot Papers in White, Light Pink, Light Green and Light Blue colour will be used for taking poll.

11. Ballot Boxes: For securing secrecy of voting, ballot boxes of the types-Godrej and Bungo will be used for the conduct of Poll.

12. Counting Halls:

12.1 Counting Halls will be set up at the Block Headquarters or any other suitable location in compliance with the existing guidelines and prior approval of the State Election Commissioner.

12.2 Counting of Votes will start from 7.00 A.M. and will continue till completion with declaration of results of elections.

13. Meeting with District Election Officers (DEOS) and Returning Officers (ROS): The Commission held meetings with the DEOs and ROs to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of poll.

14. Meeting with Political Parties:

14.1 During the exercise for preparation of Electoral Rolls and finalization of the list of Polling Stations, the ROs (BDOs) and DEOS (DMs) held meetings with the representatives of all recognized National and State political parties.

14.2 The State Level meeting with the political parties was held on 27th August, 2026 wherein discussion took place on various points relating to the conduct of Elections, particularly on observance of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), maintenance of Law and Order and preparedness for General Election to TTAAD Village Committees, 2026 under the Chairmanship of the State Election Commissioner.

14.3 Similarly, separate meetings will be conducted by the concerned DEOS/ROs at their levels for awareness of political parties/candidates about compliance of Laws, Rules and Regulations, Observance of MCC relating to VC Elections and role of the respective stakeholders.

15. Law and Order: Proper security arrangements and taking preventive measures well in advance are important to ensure a conducive environment and instill confidence among the electors as well as candidates for free, fair and peaceful poll. With this end in view, the Commission held meetings with the Police Administration and reviewed the maintenance of Law and Order including the security arrangements to be made during the poll. Adequate security arrangements will be made as assured by the police for smooth and peaceful conduct of the General Election to the TTAD Village Committees in the State.

16. Schedule of the General Election to TTAAD Village Committees, 2026:

Taking into consideration all relevant factors like Board examination(s), major festivals, prevailing law and order situation etc., the State Election Commission of Tripura has decided the following Schedule for holding General Elections to TTAAD Village Committees, 2026.

17. Model Code of Conduct:

17.1 Consequent upon the announcement of the Schedule for the General Election to TTAAD Village Committee, 2026 through this Press Meet, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into operation with immediate effect in the Village Committee areas only under TTAADC where election will be held.

17.2 The MCC will be applicable to all Political Parties, Candidates and the State Government including others stakeholders. The State Election Commissioner, Tripura calls upon all the political parties, candidates and the State Government to strictly adhere to the MCC. This is necessary to ensure free and fair poll in the State.

18. The State Election Commission of Tripura seeks the active cooperation and participation of all stakeholders in the electoral process and strives to harness collective efforts and synergies towards ensuring a smooth, free, fair, peaceful, safe, inclusive, participative and festive General Election to the TTAAD Village Committees, 2026.

19. The State Election Commission of Tripura recognizes and acknowledges the vital role to be played by print, electronic, digital, social and all other forms of media in the successful conduct of the poll and looks forward to their active cooperation, support and constructive feedback in ensuring a smooth, free, fair, peaceful and transparent election process.
