State Government Working Towards Building A Prosperous Tripura Aligned With The Prime Minister’s Vision : Agriculture Minister.

Sabroom, Tripura, 10th of June, 2025 : In its pursuit of a prosperous Tripura, the state government is diligently following the path outlined by the Prime Minister. Significant emphasis is being placed on developing the agricultural sector. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated a discussion session on Monday (9th June, 2025) at the Old Town Hall of Sabroom Subdivision, titled “Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan A Visionary Initiative for the Holistic Development of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries.” The Minister acknowledged that farmers are the nation’s food providers and emphasized the need for their hard work and productivity to be recognized. He stated that the state government is sincerely committed to the welfare and advancement of agriculture and farmers. Furthermore, he noted that scientists are consistently innovating new agricultural technologies to ensure higher yields at lower costs.

To raise awareness of the extensive initiatives undertaken by both the Central and State Governments in the agricultural sector, the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was launched across the country, including Tripura, from May 29 and will continue until June 12. As of last Monday, the campaign has reached 120,000 farmers in the state. The state government initially aimed to reach 172,000 farmers through this campaign. To achieve this goal, 72 meetings are being organized daily, facilitating interactions between farmers, scientists, and departmental officials. The Minister expressed optimism that by June 12, the campaign will exceed its target and reach even more farmers. Minister Nath also highlighted that among the three blocks in the Sabrgom Subdivision, the Satchand and Rupaichhari blocks have already achieved self-sufficiency in food production. Efforts are ongoing to help the Poangbari block attain the same status. He added that farmers are becoming increasingly confident and are working tirelessly to enhance production using new technologies.

Additionally, Agriculture Minister Nath announced the development of a new paddy seed variety named Arundhati at Tripura’s agricultural research center. Previously, 17 maunds of paddy were harvested from one kani (approximately 1.33 acres) of land; with the Arundhati variety, this has increased to 24 maunds from the same area. The event also featured participation from key resource persons, including agricultural scientist B.K. Nanda, Fisheries Department Superintendent Ajay Das, and Animal Resources Development Department Deputy Director Atendra Reang, who shared insights on various topics. Following the program, the agriculture minister inaugurated a Mobile Soil Testing Testing Labora Laboratory for the South Tripura District. Additionally, power tillers were distributed to five farmers, and five others received Soil Health Cards. Notable attendees at the event included South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, MLA Mailafu Mog, Chairperson of Sabroom Municipal Council Rama Poddar Dey, former MLA Shankar Roy, Director of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia, and Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Dipak Kumar Das, among others.
