Dharmanagar, Tripura, 30th of April 2026 : Police in Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura have achieved a major breakthrough in tackling a series of theft incidents reported from different areas. With rising cases creating panic among residents, the district police intensified their operations and launched a sustained crackdown.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off on April 29, a special police team from Dharmanagar Police Station conducted a raid in the Anandabazar area and apprehended a notorious named Ram Debnath, a resident of West Tilthai.In a significant development, the police recovered a total of nine stolen motorcycles during the operation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been associated with a theft racket for a long time and was allegedly involved in multiple theft cases across the region.
North District Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai stated that six more thieves had been arrested prior to this operation, taking the total number of arrests to seven so far. Police officials suspect that more individuals may be involved in the racket, and search operations are ongoing to nab the remaining accused.All the arrested individuals will be produced before the court, the SP added. Present during the briefing were SDPO of Dharmanagar, Jayanta Karmakar, and Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Mina Debbarma.
The successful operation has brought a sense of relief among local residents. However, people are urging the administration to maintain strict surveillance and regular patrolling to completely curb theft incidents in the area.
