Dharmanagar, Tripura, 26th of July, 2026 : Tension gripped Dharmanagar in North Tripura on Saturday (25th July, 2026) following allegations that students participating in a peaceful protest were attacked during a demonstration against the reported assault on students in Delhi.

According to the protesting students, a group of alleged miscreants launched a sudden and pre-planned attack while the demonstration was being conducted peacefully and democratically. The incident has sparked widespread anger and concern among various sections of the local community.The students claimed they were not involved in any provocative activity and were exercising their democratic right to protest peacefully when the attackers allegedly targeted them.Fearing for their safety, several students reportedly took shelter at the Dharmanagar District Congress office. The students alleged that former District Congress President Digbijoy Chakraborty, along with other Congress members, provided them with a safe refuge and necessary assistance.
The protesting students stated that the right to peaceful protest is constitutionally guaranteed in a democratic country, and being subjected to violence while exercising that right is deeply alarming and poses a serious threat to democratic values. They have demanded an impartial investigation into the incident, the identification and strict legal action against those responsible, and effective measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
