Dharmanagar, Tripura, 14th of May 2026 : Alleging irregularities in examination results, unjustified “back” papers, and being marked “absent” despite appearing for exams, the Dharmanagar College unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Thursday at the college premises. During the demonstration, students highlighted several grievances related to the examination and result publication process.

Among those present at the protest were ABVP North District Convener Aniket Deb, Dharmanagar College ABVP Secretary Sayan Ghosh, along with several other student leaders and participants. The protesters alleged that students have long been suffering due to negligence in result publication, discrepancies in marks, and issues related to back papers. At the protest site, students raised slogans expressing their frustration. They questioned, “How long will students’ futures be treated like a game?”, “Why are cleared back papers appearing again?”, and “Why are students marked absent despite appearing in exams?” They also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the roles of Dharmanagar College and Tripura University authorities.

According to the organization, many students were marked “absent” in the results even after appearing for examinations. In several cases, previously cleared back papers reportedly reappeared in the results. As a result, students’ academic futures have become uncertain, causing mental stress and anxiety among them.As part of the protest programme, the demonstrators burned an effigy of Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Shyamal Das. They also locked the main gate of Dharmanagar College, temporarily blocking the principal and office staff inside the campus.

After receiving information about the situation, police from Dharmanagar Police Station arrived at the spot and held discussions with the protesting students. Following police intervention, the college principal and office staff were eventually released from the blockade.Later, ABVP leaders and students submitted a memorandum to Dharmanagar College Principal Abhijit Sarkar. Representatives of the organization stated that if the issues are not resolved promptly, they would launch a larger movement in the coming days. They also demanded immediate intervention from the university and the concerned authorities in the interest of students.
