Dharmanagar, Tripura, 20th of February, 2026 : A team from the Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department carried out a surprise inspection at a paint and hardware shop in Dharmanagar town of North Tripura district. The incident has triggered curiosity and discussion among members of the local business community. On Friday afternoon, officials from the department suddenly arrived at the shop located near the Old Motor Stand area of Dharmanagar.

According to sources, several officers who had come from the Churaibari region took part in the inspection. They examined the quantity of goods in stock, checked the stock register, and verified primary business- related documents.Shop owner Pralay Das said, “The officials checked our documents and stock records. However, they left without seizing anything or issuing any written notice.” He further stated that the business has been operating in compliance with regulations for a long time.So far, no official statement has been issued by the department regarding the specific reason for the inspection. As a result, various speculations have emerged within the business community. Many believe that it may have been part of routine administrative monitoring.
Following the incident, discussions continue among traders in Dharmanagar, with attention now focused on whether any further action will be taken by the authorities.
