Agartala, Tripura, 28th of August, 2026 : The State Government has recruited 4,879 graduate and undergraduate teachers from the academic session 2018-19 to 2025-26. To ensure that the education of students in ADC areas is not disrupted, the government has already deputed 2,684 teachers from various government schools to schools administered by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made this statement while participating in a short-duration discussion on a public interest notice during the second half of the Assembly session on Thursday (27th August, 2026). The notice regarding the shortage of teachers in various schools across the state was raised by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury. The Chief Minister stated that since 2018, under Secondary Education, the government has recruited 1,413 Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) and 1,471 Graduate Teachers (GTs). In addition, 145 Special Educators, 117 School Librarians, and 105 Physical Education Teachers have also been appointed.
The Chief Minister informed the House that the process to fill the vacant teaching posts under Elementary and Secondary Education has already begun. Steps have been taken to recruit 352 Pre-Primary Teachers, and after the completion of the selection test, the document verification process is currently underway. For filling 1,036 vacant posts of Assistant Teacher (Primary)/Undergraduate Teacher/Kokborok Teacher (KBT) for Classes I to V through TET-I, a requisition has been sent to the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT).
Similarly, for Classes V to VIII, requisitions have been sent to TRBT for the recruitment of 1,020 Graduate Teachers/Assistant Teachers through TET-II. Besides this, the recruitment process for 700 Graduate Teacher (STGT) posts is also in progress. The Chief Minister further stated that the government’s objective is not merely to provide jobs through teacher recruitment. Appointing a teacher means strengthening a classroom, brightening a child’s future, and building a stronger Tripura for tomorrow. With this belief, the present government is working and will continue to work in the future. He emphasized that ensuring quality education for every child in the state remains one of the top priorities of the present State Government.
