Swadeshi Mela Five-Day-Long Will Continue Till January 13.

Agartala, Tripura, 11th of January, 2026 : With the initiative of Agartala Municipal Corporation Swadeshi Mela (Swadeshi fair) organized in Collaboration with the State Government at Swami Vivekananda ground, Agartala, Tripura. The five-day-long fair will continue till January 13.

The five-day-long fair will continue till January 13. The fair remains open from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The main objective of the fair is to increase interest in indigenous products and to encourage and empower local entrepreneurs by purchasing Swadeshi goods.

Addressing at the Swadeshi Mela Hon’ble Industries & Commerce,  OBC Welfare Minister Santana Chakma said that  the spirit of patriotism is awakened, the country, the state, and society move forward. With this objective in mind, the Swadeshi Mela has been organized. The fair will benefit small and medium industrial entrepreneurs and self-help groups of the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the call of “Vocal for Local” to promote the marketing, purchase, and sale of indigenous products.

At the event the Industry and Commerce Minister S. Chakma highly praised the organizers for Agartala Municipal Corporation’s first-ever organization of the Swadeshi Mela. She said that Swadeshi Mela means moving further ahead with the spirit of Swadeshi thinking, and that through this fair, people will be able to buy and sell indigenous products.

Highlighting the event Industry and Commerce Minister remarked that  if individuals become self-reliant, the state will also become self-reliant. She added that the state government is making efforts to ensure balanced development across all regions of the state, and that initiatives are being taken to establish a Unity Mall. To help self-help group members and unemployed youths of the state become self-reliant, the Central and State governments have undertaken many schemes, she said, and wished success to the Swadeshi Mela.

Addressing at the event the Hon’ble Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy said that today we are moving towards building a self-reliant India. He stated that there are more than 50,000 self-help groups in the state, and that loans worth ₹15,000 crore have been provided to these self-help groups from 2018 to 2025. He added that there are lakhs of “Lakhpati Didis”. He also added that the country is progressing rapidly in sectors such as agriculture, rubber, tea, sports, and metro rail services. Emphasizing the vision of development, he said that “Viksit Bharat” is not just a slogan; the goal is self-reliance for every family. He concluded by stating that only when every family in the state becomes self-reliant will the state and the nation truly become self-reliant.

Speaking at the event Hon’ble Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia  state that  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the initiative to build a self-reliant India by 2047. To achieve this goal, the Prime Minister has given the call of “Vocal for Local.” The Agartala Municipal Corporation has created a new platform with this objective, and thousands of people have participated in it today. He said that local products of Gujarat are now being marketed across the country, and that around 11 countries are currently purchasing these products. He added that this Swadeshi Mela will strengthen the foundation of the state’s economy.

The song “Vande Mataram” was performed at the event, and artists from Gurukul Nrityakala Ashram also presented a Vande Mataram dance performance. Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Dipak Majumder delivered a welcome address at the event.

Amidst the distinguished dignitaries there were Ram Prasad Paul, Hon’ble Acting Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Manika Das Datta, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Mihir Kanti Gop, Additional Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation and many other distinguished dignitaries were present in the event.
