Agartala, Tripura, 18th of February, 2026 : Techno India University, Tripura organised a commemorative programme titled “Dhaanshiritir Teerey – Remembering Jibanananda Das” to celebrate the life and literary legacy of the iconic Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. The event brought together teachers, students, and administrators for an afternoon of poetry, reflection, and intellectual engagement. The university’s growing emphasis on such meaningful literary and intellectual exchanges has been consistently nurtured under the guidance of Hon’ble Chancellor Prof. Satyam Roychowdhury, whose vision continues to encourage a vibrant academic and cultural environment at the institution.

The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. Dilip Sarkar, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dean of Student Welfare, who emphasised the importance of revisiting literary stalwarts to enrich academic and cultural consciousness among students.
The afternoon also marked the inauguration of ‘Kritimandala’, Techno India University Tripura’s newly initiated series of literary and cultural engagements. Envisioned as a platform where literature becomes a shared experience of reflection, creativity, and collective memory, Kritimandala aims to foster sustained dialogue between texts, contexts, and contemporary concerns.
The event featured a series of poetry recitations in Bengali and English by faculty members and students from various departments, reflecting the wide influence of Jibanananda Das across disciplines. Students actively participated through recitations, translations, and an open letter reading, making the session both engaging and interactive.
Prof. Ajay Krishna Saha, Dean of Academic Affairs, offered an insightful deliberation on Jibanananda Das’s poetic language and modernist sensibility. He spoke about how the poet’s nuanced imagery and quiet introspection challenge conventional reading practices and invite readers to pause, reflect, and engage deeply with both self and society.
In his special address, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ratan Kumar Saha spoke about the enduring significance of Jibanananda Das in present times. He highlighted how the poet’s deep engagement with nature, human solitude, and social realities continues to resonate with contemporary readers and helps young minds look beyond material concerns. The Vice-Chancellor also delivered a special recital from Jibanananda Das’s works, which added a reflective and evocative dimension to the programme. He further appreciated the academic and cultural environment of the university, for consistently encouraging such meaningful literary and intellectual exchanges.
The event proved to be deeply enlightening for students, helping them connect literature with contemporary life while inspiring a more thoughtful and sensitive engagement with poetry and the humanities.
