Nagpur, 27th of July 202 : In an economy shaped by artificial intelligence, digital transformation and constant technological change, learning can no longer be something professionals postpone until they take a career break. Today’s workplace demands continuous upskilling, strategic thinking and the ability to lead through change. As careers evolve faster than ever before, executive education is also undergoing a transformation.
Across industries, experienced professionals are increasingly choosing flexible, technology-enabled management programmes that allow them to learn while they continue to work. Blended MBA programmes, which combine live online learning with periodic campus immersion, are emerging as a preferred model for executives who want to grow without stepping away from their professional responsibilities.
This shift is reflected in the response to the Blended MBA for Working Professionals (BMBA) at IIM Nagpur. The inaugural batch has brought together 83 professionals from 77 organisations, creating a classroom where diverse industry experiences converge.
Participants represent organisations including McKinsey & Company, NTPC, Accenture, Infosys, IBM, Hindalco, HPCL, Capgemini, Ernst & Young, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, State Bank of India, Honda Cars India Limited, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Lloyds Metals & Energy Limited, alongside entrepreneurs and founders who bring their own business perspectives. The result is a learning environment where knowledge flows not only from faculty to participants, but equally through peer learning and shared professional experiences.
The diversity extends beyond organisations. Professionals from more than 20 Indian states, along with participants from the United Arab Emirates, bring regional, national and international perspectives into classroom discussions. While many have six to ten years of experience, others have spent over fifteen years in leadership roles, making every interaction an opportunity to exchange practical insights rather than merely academic concepts.
According to Dr.BhimarayaMetri, Director, IIM Nagpur, management education must evolve alongside industry.
“Management education today must evolve to meet the needs of professionals who seek continuous learning without interrupting their careers. As artificial intelligence and emerging technologies reshape industries, the future belongs to flexible, technology-enabled learning that combines academic rigour with industry relevance. Blended MBA programmes prepare experienced professionals to harness AI, drive innovation and lead organisations through digital transformation in an increasingly complex business environment,” says Dr.BhimarayaMetri, Director, IIM Nagpur.
Designed for professionals with at least three years of work experience, the two-year programme combines live online classes with periodic campus immersions, case-based pedagogy, industry interaction and collaborative learning. Beyond core management disciplines such as finance, marketing, operations and strategy, the curriculum incorporates emerging areas including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainability and innovation.
Prof. Debarun Chakraborty, Programme Chairperson, believes the value of such programmes lies as much in the classroom as in the curriculum.
The growing acceptance of blended executive education is also reflected in national rankings. Business Today has placed IIM Nagpur among India’s Top 10 institutions in the Online MBA category, underscoring the increasing recognition of technology-enabled management education.
As admissions open for its second BMBA cohort, the programme reflects a larger trend reshaping executive education in India. For today’s professionals, career advancement is no longer about stepping away from work to learn—it is about learning while leading, applying new ideas immediately, and preparing for leadership in an increasingly dynamic business environment.
