Dharmanagar, Tripura, 2nd of July 2026 : In a widely discussed land dispute-related assault case in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) has delivered its verdict in favour of the victims after a 15-month trial. The court found two accused guilty and sentenced each of them to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with monetary fines.The judgment in PRC (WP) No. 79 of 2025 was delivered on Tuesday by Chief Judicial Magistrate Debolina Kilikdar.

The court convicted Amit Sinha and Amar Sinha, sons of Anil Sinha, under Sections 117(2) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3(5).Under Section 117(2), each convict has been sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹5,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of simple imprisonment. Under Section 115(2), each has also been fined ₹5,000, with another six months of simple imprisonment in default of payment.The court further directed that the total fine amount of ₹20,000 recovered from the convicts be paid to the injured victims as compensation.
According to the case records, the incident occurred on 27 March 2025 near the Mahadevbari area adjacent to a mushroom farm on Kalachhara Road in Dharmanagar. When Uttam Sinha, son of the late Gourishekhar Sinha, objected to soil being dumped on a disputed plot of land, the accused allegedly launched a sudden and violent attack on him. It was alleged that they also attempted to kill him by throwing him into muddy water.While trying to rescue him, his brother Gautam Sinha and sister-in-law Manju Rani Sinha also sustained injuries.Following the incident, a case was registered at Dharmanagar Police Station. Investigating Officer SI Biswajit Das completed the investigation and submitted the charge sheet before the court.
After examining the testimonies of six witnesses, medical records, investigation findings, and arguments presented by both sides over the course of 15 months, the court pronounced its verdict.Following the judgment, members of the victim’s family expressed satisfaction, stating that they had finally received justice after a prolonged legal battle.The verdict has generated widespread discussion in Dharmanagar. According to several legal experts, the judgment sends a strong message that violence arising out of land disputes will be dealt with firmly under the law and may serve as a deterrent against similar offences in the future.
